How Do I Start My Inner Child Healing?

Updated: Nov 26, 2022

Many of us start our inner child healing when we found that we have been stuck in the cycle of negative emotions.

We been easily triggered by certain people or situations, we want to escape from the cycle and take back the control of our life.

We don't want to keep attracting the same types of partners in our relationships, repeating the same mistakes in our life decisions, having the negative emotions and thoughts that affect our happiness.

Inner child healing is our homework that can help us to stop from repeating the trauma that we been experienced during our childhood or past experiences. We been taught or learned the limiting beliefs that had make us repeat the same problems or challenges in our life.

For example, we had been taught to be obedient and considerate as a child. We are not allowed to have or express our negative emotions, such as anger, sadness, or disappointment. We started to ignore or repressed these emotions as a kid.

As a result, we numb our feelings when we had grown up as adult. This is the reason that why many people have depression or anger issues. We try to hide or ignore our feelings, because we been taught to be strong and can't have these negative emotions. We thought when we ignore our negative emotions, we are mature and strong. As a result, many of us that are suffering insomnia, depression or anger issues can't really aware that our repressed emotions and childhood trauma had caused a lot of our mental problems.

Inner child healing helps us to start realizing our trauma and understand that our emotions are valid and true. When we start to acknowledge our inner child and their negative emotions, we help them to release those feelings and free them from the past hurt and cycle.

1. Visualize your inner child image You can start your inner child healing by simply recalled your childhood memories or visualize your children image. By looking at your childhood photo, diary or anything that can recalled your childhood memories, then you can connect with your inner child.

2. Asking inner child's feelings and needs Whenever you feel triggered, your emotion response will be extraordinary strong. You can try to imagine your inner child is standing in front of you.

You can ask him or her, "what is your feelings right now and how I can help you to feel better."

Most of the time our inner child is hurt when our feelings had been ignored or our words are not heard as a child. We feel that we are not loved and we are not good enough as a child. These limiting beliefs and feelings had been stored in our mind and body that had been forgot by us after we grew up.

Healing our inner child is helping our inner child to feel loved and supported when we needed. Our parents might not be as perfect as we think, some of them having their childhood trauma as well. As adult, we can give the love and support to our inner child when he or she needed care and support from us.

3. Write down your feelings & thoughts Journaling is another best way that I use to heal my inner child. By writing down your thoughts and feelings, you can feel that you been heard and understood by someone that you always want as a kid.

When we have a wounded inner child, it is not easy for us to open and trust others, we have problem to discuss and share our feelings and needs to others. You can start and learn to express yourself by having a diary, write down all the good and bad things you have in your daily life.

By sharing your feelings and thoughts with yourself, you can be your best friend who will always by your side and listen to you. No matter what you are dealing or experience now, whether is your fear, worry, anxiety, shame, guilt, grief, disappointment, frustration, or anger, you can face them directly without judgment.

Writing down your feelings and thoughts is another way to release our stress and troubles. Words have the powerful impact to our daily life whether they are from others or from ourselves. If our minds keep repeating some negative thoughts, we feel drained and tired all the time. By allowing and releasing them through journaling, your inner child feel heard and healed at the same time.

Here are 3 tips that how I start to heal my inner child: 1. Visualize your inner child image

2. Asking their feelings and needs

3. Write down your feelings and thoughts.
